Understanding pipelines and stages
Last updated August 26, 2026
A pipeline is how BizOS tracks a deal as it moves toward a sale. If you have ever used a whiteboard or a spreadsheet with columns like Lead, In Talks, and Won, a pipeline in BizOS does the same job, just connected to your actual contacts and invoices.
Each pipeline is made up of stages. A simple pipeline might have stages like New Lead, Contacted, Proposal Sent, and Won. You move a contact from one stage to the next as the relationship progresses.
You can create more than one pipeline if your business sells in different ways. For example, one pipeline for new customers and a separate one for renewals.
On Foundation, you can have up to 10 pipelines, each with up to 5 stages. Momentum and Apex remove both limits, so you can build out as many pipelines and stages as your sales process actually needs.
If your business does not really have a sales process, for example if customers simply pay an invoice without back and forth negotiation first, you can skip pipelines entirely and rely on contacts and invoicing instead.
